Leticia's Story
Leticia Gutierrez is running a campaign rooted in the community she calls home. This district is not just a place she lives—it is where her roots run deep.
Leticia came to this country as an immigrant, raised by parents who worked tirelessly as farm laborers. As they struggled to ensure their children not only survived but thrived, they instilled in them enduring values of faith, hard work, and family and community unity. There were no handouts—everything was earned.
For 45 years, Leticia has lived in this district. She attended Milby High School and later graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in finance.
Her reason for running to represent Congressional District 9 is simple: she cannot stand by while the community that raised her is targeted and pushed aside. Leticia knows firsthand the false narratives often used to describe immigrants—that they are criminals or a drain on the economy. Her lived experience tells a different story. Like her family, immigrants work hard, pay taxes, start businesses, and keep critical industries running.
As a single mother, Leticia raised two children who are her world. She became an advocate for children’s health when her oldest child—now serving our country in the U.S. Army—developed asthma. She understands what is at stake for families in this district.
In her day-to-day work, Leticia collaborates with elected officials and government agencies to deliver real, tangible change for her community. She knows how to connect decision-makers with impacted residents and how to work across the aisle to reach solutions that benefit the greatest number of people.
Leticia will roll up her sleeves and work for CD9.
Today, Leticia's son is in the US Army, her daughter attends college in Houston, and she continue to fight for all our children in TX-09.
