Overview

Alex Mealer is an out-of-touch Californian who does not live in the district and cannot be trusted to fight for working families or lower costs. She is a billionaire-backed extremist politician who will be a rubber stamp for Washington politicians and their cost-raising agenda. That’s why Big Tech pro-data center super PACs and dark money special interests are spending more than $1 million to prop her up because they know that she will be a puppet for special interests in Washington.  Leticia Gutierrez is a military mom, former fraud analyst, and community leader who will fight for lower costs, hold corporations accountable, and put working families first.

Summary

Starting as soon as possible, independent and Democratic-leaning voters in the TX-9 portion of Harris County and in the Houston Media Market, especially Latino voters and voters under 35, need to see positive and contrast ads on broadcast TV, Spanish and English on YouTube, connected TV and streaming platforms about how:

  • Alex Mealer is a Californian who doesn't even live in this district and has said she will only move here if she wins. Mealer supports the policies that are making things more expensive for Texans, including the largest cut to Medicaid in history, cutting healthcare access for over 1.6 million Texans and raising premiums by an average of 35% – all to fund tax breaks for billionaires. She's backed by national special interests who have spent more than $1 million to buy her seat and a super PAC backed by companies building data centers all over Texas because they know she will prioritize their profits over hardworking families in our community.

    • Houston Public Media- May 26, 2026: “She does not live in the boundaries of the congressional district, which is not required, but has said she would move into the district if she wins.”

    • Houston Chronicle: And in the 9th, Anthropic's Public First Action network spent almost $750,000 to boost Mealer, an Army veteran who worked on energy deals at Wells Fargo.

    • Texas Tribune: Mealer, running for Texas’ 9th Congressional District in east Harris County, was backed by the same PAC with about $234,000 spent in support of her campaign.

  • As a lifelong Texan (Tejana) and single mother who raised her children in this community, Leticia Gutierrez understands that what Texans want is for our hard work to be enough to provide for our families, and she's not afraid to stand up for what's right. When her oldest son, who now proudly serves in the U.S. Army, developed asthma, she became an advocate for children's health. Now she's running for Congress to fight for lower costs for working families in Texas and fix the corrupt system that is hurting us.

    • Houston Chronicle Editorial Board – October 14, 2026: “There’s no denying that both her [Leticia’s] roots and commitment to this district are deep. We can’t say the same about her Republican challenger Alexandra Mealer, a 40-something California native whose most recent registered home address is in the Woodland Heights — nowhere near District 9.”

Starting as soon as possible, Democratic-leaning, Latino and Black voters in the TX-9 portion of Harris County who plan to vote for Talarico and Hinojosa, in the zip codes 77049, 77013, 77044, 77015, 77521, 77078, 77020, 77011, 77012, 77587, 77506, 77087, 77547, 77017, 77034, 77502, 77503, 77530, 77504, and 77520 need to hear from bilingual canvassers in Spanish and English at their doors about how:

  • Leticia Gutierrez is a military mom and our neighbor of 45 years who will fight for our kids' health and lower costs, while Alex Mealer doesn't even live here.

  • Texas has no straight-ticket voting, so voters must find Leticia Gutierrez on their ballot, next to Talarico and Hinojosa, and vote all the way down.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

  • Hispanic voters who consume at least some of their news and information in Spanish need to see ads that feature both Spanish and English.

  • During early voting, short ads should remind voters that Texas has no straight-ticket voting, so they must find Leticia Gutierrez on their ballot.
